Ah Comiket 74, how much must I spend!

17 August, 2008 (19:27) | lol blog | By: dovac

I budgeted 1.5 paychecks for it, after some of the items showed up, I believe this year things is just more expensive then last year, pretty depressing but I was able to get what I wanted for the most part.

Downside is that I wasn’t able to use my usual auction bidding service so I used a new one. I hope it ends up well.

Its probably also due to me using mainly buy it now prices so they’re always jacked up by a lot, but I think its sometimes worth it so I don’t have to deal with the hassle of constantly fighting with Japanese otaku wanting to get the sets too.

I picked up:

http://page11.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/n62653679
http://page2.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b88561236
http://page6.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/f65416174
http://page5.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/e79653866
http://page18.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/w28091704
http://page5.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/e83705059
http://page6.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/f65460584
http://page11.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/n62653609
http://page2.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b90957143
http://page2.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b90961249
http://page11.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/n68332610
http://page10.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/m59422057

I am missing just two artists till I’m satisfied with the amount of money I wasted, Pink CHUCHU and Himegami are the two missing. I was going to get more stuff but I don’t want to dip in to my credit cards……If I did that then I wouldn’t be able to go to Japan for C75

Given how intensely those guys can get auctions to escalate out of control so fast, I’d say that was a wise choice.

Hi,

I chanced upon your blog.
You have a nice theme, clean and tidy font too.

Did you try to snipe the Yahoo Japan auction?
Many of the times, Otaku will place bid near to closing hours.

Nevertheless, have you ever tried Rakuten Japan?
Or Yahoo Taiwan? There might be some goodies lurking around..

I will frequent this blog again.. ^ ^

Thanks a lot
Michael

Dear Zeroblade,

True enough that Buy price can eliminate unnecessary bid wars.
However, most BIN auctions are generally ended higher than bid auctions.
That’s just my though ^ ^

Thanks a lot
Michael

I find bidding against Japanese otaku somewhat fruitless especially when I have to wake up super early to catch the late ending ones, most of the time I lose since I’m not willing to spend 20k on a full set :/

If I didn’t have to wake up so early to get to my job on time I probably would of tried to snipe some auctions

So you are the chaosjapan person. :P Seen you around a bit, though I think there are more than a few people using that service for C74 this time round.

I tend not to snipe though, because of that 10-minute auto-extend thing. What I did was to wait for the first wave of auctions to go before jumping in on the action and cleaning the rest out. The high-bidding jpno’s tend to place their crazy bids really early.

I also like the buy it now option, although I do try to go with the lower priced ones as they come online.

I rather have used Crescent but they were closed during Comiket, there were some others I checked as well but they seemed closed too, sooooo SMJ was a random choice that I decided to use….but now I find the fees are quite excessive with them, probably wont use them again.

To dovac,

Yeah, you are right. The Japanese time often conflicts with the western countries timing.
It will be so tiring to bid and have to counter attack those otaku! ^ ^

Perhaps, you may want to consider outsouring to others to snipe for you?

To icie.

Yes, time extension is a bugging function set by Yahoo Japan which means,
it’s a price war instead of sniping war.

To optimize the sniping without getting time extension, bid between 5:01 to 5:10.
Any timing below 5:00 or 4:59, time remaining will + 5 min! (irritating)

If you happen to see “自動延長はありません。” in the Yahoo Japan auction,
here is your chance to bid like ebay as there is no time extension anymore.
Bid at 10s!

If you hate all these, leave it to the deputy to handle it. ^ ^

To dovac,

Why bother to use 3rd part bidding script?

You can own your Yahoo Japan Premium ID which you can bid it instantly and directly in
Yahoo Japan Auction!

Why not getting it for your visitors or organise group purchase?

thanks again
michael

Michael, you mentioned yahoo Taiwan, but I dont know of any deputies that actually cater for bidding there. There is some stuff in taiwan worth getting (like Greenwood). Also, the Korean market is underexposed too.

Yes, Korean market is really very underexposed.. Been trying to examine the market there but
no good results as yet.. T T

Icie,

Yes beside Yahoo Japan, i operate deputy services in Yahoo Taiwan and Hong kong also.
I would say Taiwan is a next growing market not to be undermined. ^ ^

As for Korea, it needs more time to fine tune.

Michael:

I’m already using a bidding service since no auction sites deal with foreigners.

> Why not getting it for your visitors or organise group purchase?
I tried a group purchase during sunshine creation 33 I think, it worked ok but getting items shipped from Japan then to USA and then to Europe was a little annoying

I might use your service in the future maybe offer discounts during doujin events and I’ll consider it more ;)

Nice stash you picked up Dovac. Will be waiting for your scan on some of them ^^

dovac: I think its very annoying that Crescent Shop closes almost everytime its time for Comiket, because of how the event is timed for the holidays. This time round they reopened like a day after the third day though, so I kinda used both services. Only thing about ChaosJapan is they have a useless system when it comes to dutch auctions.

aoie_emesai:
Yep I’ll scan anything that doesn’t involve damaging them

icie: agreed, crescent has the best automated system but its never up when we need it :/

michael: will you be open during c75? ;D

dovac,

No problem, just let me know if you need service in Yahoo Taiwan ^ ^
while waiting for chance to serve you in Yahoo Japan..

Group purchase can be done easily.
That way is way too complex.

All you need to do is to give me the list of member name, address and items won.
I will send it directly to them from Japan and therefore you save the hassle to
re-ship ^ ^

Cheers

Thanks
