So I decided to stop hosting visual novel translation sites.

All projects/sites hosted have 89 days to move.

I do not like what I see in the visual novel scene and I don’t want to be associated with it anymore. It is as simple as this:

1) I own the server
2) I choose who I host
3) I shoulder legal responsibility

I don’t want the legal responsibility anymore so that is why everyone is being kicked off.

What don’t you like about the VN scene?

Hilarious. I’ll just get me a bowl of popcorn and watch the ensuing fireworks.

Somehow intuitively I understand this. I’m not totally happy with the current scene either and I certainly understand not wanting to carry financial and legal responsibility for it. Sincere thanks for helping as long as you did.

thank you for paying the bills for so long.

Even though I make use of their work; I, too, wouldn’t want to take legal responsibility for other people!

I have to agree with dovac. Too many people use a translation patch as a reason to download rather than import. Translation patches should result in greater support for the company, not less. Obviously there’s legal repercussions to that which he wants to get clear of.

Good for Dovac.
If a community’s response to years of free hosting and hard work is “fuck you” when it’s time to throw in the towel. Said community needs a wake up call.

a random troll != community
even an idiot knows this!

Like Megaupload. If you don’t host the files, someone else will step up and fill the void.

But just to clarify… it’s only the VN stuff? So the imageboard and everything else is still safe? I figured the imageboard would be even MORE illegal and more of a liability due to the sheer amount of copyright violations (not to mention, tons of gray area content).

Has anyone actually contacted you and sent you take-down notices yet?

I’m not really that involved with the scene, so I can’t say I know what issues arose. But I just wanted to say thank you for shouldering the servers for as long as you have.

This seems really complicated…
